WHY AMCOS?

We provide targeted interventions in the areas of health care, provision of potable water, educational advancement and other charitable causes.

Brief history of AMCOS Morocco

AMCOS Morocco, is the Moroccan arm of the main Association which is registered in Nigeria.

Dr Margaret Macauley, made a visit to Morocco in November 2014, on her way to The Gambia, to speak at a Women Leaders Conference.

She was traveling Air Maroc and made a stop-over in Casablanca, having never been in Morocco before.

She observed seeming large number of Sub-Saharan Africans, seemingly roaming the streets, but who were, in actual fact, begging for alms.

This situation “cut her heart” and made her consequently seek for ways to ameliorate the situation.

This birthed a vision of Skills empowerment, and AMCOS was registered in Morocco in 2016, first as a local Association, but subsequently upgraded in 2017.

Skills acquisition projects

Between, 2017 and 2022, in essence for the first 5 years, the focus of AMCOS was to provide support for Sub-Saharan Immigrants, via skills acquisition. Tailoring, Hair Dressing, acquisition of language skills in French and Arabic. In addition, health intervention for the vulnerable who could not afford to pay for medication. Assistance to put children in school for up to 18 months. The aim of the various skill acquisition projects, was to enable the individuals so empowered to be able to commence small scale businesses. That way, they can go off the streets of begging, be able to earn a decent living, and ultimately, stand on their own.

Advancement of education and learning projects

This is to enable the propagation of Education and learning in several Communities. This is by providing basic education and opportunities for the development of Skills.

  • This involves, School Empowerment Projects.

As a case in point:

A school (SAMIRA ZAIZI) was identified in LHKAKMA REGION OF SOIUIHLA MARRAKECH a village in the outskirts of Marrakech. This is a school set up to take care of poor preschool age children. The school was empowered with a Lap-top, and a Giant Printer, also teaching books, and other administrative materials like Student ID Cards. The children were empowered with full, back-to-school materials, books, writing materials, school bags, erasable pads and school tunics. The parents of the 40 children in the school, were also each given Food Cartons with Morocco type dried foods, grain, milk, cheese, and such as could feed an average family of 5 for 15 days.

  • As part of our Education initiatives, we also pay school fees for Adult Leaners, who never went to school, and so cannot read or write.

Disaster mitigation

This involves reaching out to communities which have been severely impacted by unforeseen disastrous circumstances, such as flooding or Earthquakes. Disasters that have resulted in loss of homes, lives, livelihood and consequent relocation of families to shelters. In September 2023, the Kingdom of Morocco, was hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake on the Richter Scale. The nation had not experienced this size of Earthquake in 120 years. Consequently, the effects, damage and loss of lives was unexpected and very heart wrenching. In November, after the surviving Communities had now been relocated to tent villages as their new homes, AMCOS paid a Humanitarian visit to 3 Villages.

The Citizens were encouraged, and also given large food boxes per family. The vision was to encourage the community, and assure them that they are loved and cared about.

Health checks in schools with the aim of offering preventative measures against childhood diseases. Just on 15th January 2024, AMCOS went back to the school she had adopted in the SOUHILA Region of Marrakech, to administer such against Chicken Pox. AMCOS can also offer Medical Aid/care for  members of Communities, which may be selected by the organization from time to time.

Poverty aleviation

This is done essentially by providing Food Boxes to families. There have been various incidences of Palliative Food packs given out during the Ramadan Period. In addition, vulnerable Sub Saharan Immigrants families, have also benefitted

Water related projects

This is usually done by providing portable water by means of Borehole, wells, or other related means fore communities which lack same. This is as may be determined by the organization, from time to time.
